What does the underside of a slab-on-grade house look like?

Date Published: 09/16/2007 [Source]

When you're buying a house, you look it over carefully. You search the roof, the walls, the floors, for flaws. But what about the bottom? If only you could see underneath the house to look for cracks in the slab-on-grade foundation.

The movers were surprised to find PVC piping under the house that was not part of the plumbing. It was installed to vent toxic radon from beneath the foundation if, at some point, the cancer-causing gas were found inside Florida House. In that case, electric fans would have been hooked to connecting pipes in the attic so the radon could be sucked away.
