As a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the member of the committee who has the responsibility of reviewing the Vermont Health Department's budget for the Appropriation's Committee, I am keenly aware of the development of this budget, and ultimately, what was approved by the committee.
When we received the Health Department's budget in January, the town health officer positions, along with the radon program and several other programs, were slated for reductions by the Vermont Health Department. Knowing that the town health officer served a very important role in supporting our towns, the committee agreed to open discussions with the department centered on the possibility of reinstating this position.
