During the cold winter months, people tend to stay indoors and even in the lower levels of their home more often. This is why the US EPA has declared January as National Radon Action Month
As part of the effort to raise awareness and encourage testing, many county public health agencies across the nation are offering discounted radon test kits this month. Both the EPA and the US Surgeon General recommend testing the most lived-in area of the home, where the family typically spends most of its time.
During 2007, testing in the Madison, Wisconsin, area revealed radon levels above recommended guidelines in 2 out of 3 homes tested.
