A recent Illinois study shows that 42% of homes tested in Illinois have elevated levels of radon, which is the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers.
Certain counties returned results in which more than half the homes tested high high radon concentrations.
Free test kits are available from some local Illinois health departments.
