The US EPA has designated January as Radon Action Month and encourages homeowners to learn about the dangers of radon and test their homes and offices for the radioactive gas, which is found in an estimated one in fifteen homes in the US.
Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer deaths in nonsmokers. Children are more sensitive to radon because their lungs are smaller and their respiratory rates are twice as high.
