Gov. Urges Ill. To Test Homes For Radon

Date Published: 01/07/2009 [Source]

An Illinois state study shows that 42% of homes tested in the state had excessively high levels of radon, which is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the nation. Among nonsmokers, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer.

During the month of January, which is National Radon Action Month, IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency) is offering 10,000 free radon tests to raise awareness about the dangers of radon and to encourage people to test their homes and buildings.
